Frequently Asked Questions
- Divide your annual salary by the total hours you work per year. A standard full-time schedule is 40 hours/week × 52 weeks = 2,080 hours/year. So $60,000 ÷ 2,080 = $28.85/hour. If you work fewer hours or weeks, adjust accordingly.
- $20/hour × 40 hours/week × 52 weeks = $41,600 per year before taxes. This assumes a standard full-time schedule with no unpaid time off.
- The US federal minimum wage is $7.25/hour as of 2026, unchanged since 2009. Many states and cities have higher minimums — check your state's labor department for the applicable rate in your location.
- This calculator uses straight time. For overtime (typically 1.5× for hours over 40/week under the FLSA), calculate regular hours and overtime hours separately. Salaried exempt employees generally do not receive overtime pay.
- Reduce the "weeks per year" input. If you take 2 weeks unpaid vacation, enter 50 instead of 52. This gives you the actual effective hourly rate based on hours actually paid.
