- Divide both parts by their Greatest Common Factor (GCF). For 12:8, GCF=4, so 12÷4 : 8÷4 = 3:2.
- A ratio A:B compares two quantities; the fraction form is A/B. Ratios can describe part-to-part relationships (3:2 boys to girls), while fractions describe part-to-whole (3/5 of the group are boys).
