Pixel Pitch & Viewing Distance Calculator (LED Wall)
Calculate viewing distances for any LED video wall pixel pitch (P1.5, P2.6, P3.9, P4.8, P10, etc.) using the industry-standard 1×/2×/10× rule of thumb. Also computes pixel density per m² and resolution if you enter screen dimensions. For LED designers, AV integrators, and event producers.

Optional: Screen Size (for resolution)
Optimal Viewing Distance
7.8 m / 25.6 ft
For a P3.9 LED wall: minimum 3.9m (12.8ft), optimal 7.8m (25.6ft), max effective 39m (128ft). Pixel density: 65,746/m². Total pixels: 1,380,671 (720p HD).
Minimum (no pixelation)
3.9 m / 12.8 ft
Optimal (immersive)
7.8 m / 25.6 ft
Maximum (resolution wasted beyond)
39 m / 128 ft
Total Pixels
1,380,671
Resolution Class
720p HD
Pixel Density
65,746/m²
Industry rule: minimum viewing distance in meters ≈ pixel pitch in mm × 1.

The Formula
- pitch = Center-to-center distance between adjacent LEDs, in millimeters
- d_min = Minimum distance for no visible pixelation
- d_optimal = Best immersion-to-clarity tradeoff
- d_max = Beyond this, pixel resolution is wasted
How to Use This Pixel Pitch Calculator
- 1Enter pixel pitch in millimeters (e.g. 3.9 for P3.9).
- 2Optionally enter screen width and height to get resolution.
- 3Read minimum (no pixelation visible), optimal (immersive), and maximum useful viewing distances.
Frequently Asked Questions
- The center-to-center distance between adjacent LEDs, measured in millimeters. Lower number = higher resolution = closer minimum viewing distance. P1.5 (1.5mm) is high-res indoor; P10+ is large outdoor venue.
- Industry rule of thumb: minimum viewing distance in meters ≈ pixel pitch in mm × 1. So P3.9 has a ~3.9m (13ft) minimum. Optimal is 2× (8m / 26ft). Maximum effective viewing distance — beyond which you're wasting resolution — is roughly 10×.
- Depends on closest viewer. Concerts where front row is 5m from screen: P3.9 or finer. Large stadium with audience 30m+ away: P10-P16 is fine and much cheaper. Always design to the CLOSEST viewer.
- P2.6-P3.9 is the sweet spot for ballroom and conference applications where viewers are 5-15m from the wall. P1.9 if executives are within 3m.
- Outdoor walls typically use larger pitch (P6, P10, P16) because viewers are farther away AND the panels need higher brightness (5000+ nits) which is easier with larger LEDs. Indoor walls run finer pitch with lower brightness (800-1500 nits).
